Local Family on Shark Tank

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) - Making outdoor cooking a little easier: that's what the invention of a local family aims to do, and its getting quite a bit of national attention.

The Johnson family had an idea while camping."We're going to unpack to cook hamburgers and we realize that I had forgot a spatula, salt, we had this much oil..." Taylor Johnson begins.

They created a portable outdoor kitchen."Just from that experience we realized—well, my dad looking at me—he realized, 'Where's your truck box? Where's your box with all the dry goods in it for camping?'" Taylor says.

They call it Tailgate n Go, a product with hometown roots."We're a 100% Colorado company. We do everything here in house and we do everything as a family," says Taylor.

That's not all they're proud of. Kobe Johnson, a recent graduate of Fruita Monument High School, is the first deaf entrepreneur ever on the show. Kobe doesn't plan on stopping with Tailgate n Go."I have lots of inventions to help with new deaf technology and now technology with the deaf is old school and outdated. When I'm all done working with tailgate n go in the future, I would like to start a new business named DeafTech," says Kobe.

While they wouldn't let me in on any spoilers, you can catch the Johnsons next Sunday night."Our Shark Tank experience was unbelievable, once in a lifetime. We just cannot wait for it to air and we're excited to see our company on the big screen," says Taylor
